It’s possible to both love your body and to want to improve it. Not only is it possible to hold both these thoughts in your head and heart at the same time, by doing so, you’re more likely to achieve results!
Scientific study has proven over and over again (like here, here and here) body shaming does not result in the shamed individual losing weight. I can tell you from my own health coaching practice that my clients stuck in a loop of negative self talk, consistently expressing disgust and revulsion over their bodies do not achieve results—that is, until they break free of the cycle.
When we come to accept that our bodies are our vessels for moving around and experiencing all the wonderful things this world has to offer, when we come to love all the amazing things these bodies do for us, when we choose to nurture rather than deprive our bodies, THAT’s when the magic happens. The power of self love is unstoppable.
